Four years ago, one of our wonderful clients took a profound leap of faith to put her health and healing first. Recently, while documenting her experience with a 3-day bone broth and colonic cleanse on her blog (Mental Voyager), Kate Star shared a touching reflection on what walking through our doors means to her now. With her permission, we are honored to share that section of Kate’s story below.
Day Two:
Monday I slept so deeply Sunday night. I always sleep well during cleanses and fasts. My body uses its energy for healing rather than digestion, and rest is part of that process.
After some computer work in the morning, I headed to Health2o, my favorite colon hydrotherapy wellness clinic, for my first colonic at 10:45 AM, past the morning rush, with the rest of the day still ahead. What I hadn’t planned on: today was the four-year anniversary of the first time I walked through their doors. It hit me the moment I realized it, and it stopped me in my tracks.
Four years ago, I had just left my 7-year career in the mental health field. The populations I worked with had experienced significant trauma—substance use, violence, floods, fires, and the pandemic—and it had taken a serious toll on my own health. My digestive system was struggling, my emotional well-being needed a significant overhaul, and I had gained back about 80 pounds of my 170-pound total weight loss. I hit a wall and made the hardest decision of my life: I quit, moved back to my hometown, and moved in with family. I jumped off the cliff without a parachute and chose to put myself and my healing first.
It was my naturopathic doctor who first recommended colonics, back in October 2021. When I moved home, I needed to find a new clinic. A chiropractor referred me to Health2o, and I remember walking in for the first time. The facilities were pristine and spa-like, each room with its own bathroom and bidet. The staff put me immediately at ease, took my complicated health history seriously, and evaluated whether I had any contraindications before we began. I felt cared for in a way I hadn’t in a long time.
Standing there on my four-year anniversary, I felt the full weight of how far I’ve come. Everything I’ve been through, everything I’ve healed, everything I’ve rebuilt, so much of it is rooted in that decision to choose myself. I am so proud of the decisions I’ve made. And I am so grateful for the practitioners at Health2o who have been part of the journey.
Reading how far Kate has come over these past four years is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do at Health2o.
